Drawing after Rembrandt (Selfportrait as Zeuxis Laughing)

1999 / Graphite on paper / 50 x 35 cm

Van de Graaf has also been interested in the expression of people, in how you can transmit character and soul from a person into an artwork. His fascination for Rembrandt, being the master in transmitting this, started in this phase. The drawings from Rembrandt are a very important inspiration, as in his opinion Rembrandt is the best draftsman of all times.
